USDA December Milk Produciton

According to the USDA, milk production in the US for the month of December 2015 was reported at 16.6 bln lbs, down 3% from Nov (17.1), and up 1% over last year 16.6 bln lbs.

On average, US dairy cows receive approximately 30 pounds per day of feed. Thereof, 5.7% (1.7 lbs) soybean meal, 46% (13.8 lbs) corn silage, 14% (4.2 lbs) corn, 21% (6.3 lbs) hay, 13.3% (4.0 lbs) other

The number of dairy cows (whether in production or not) was unchanged from last month at 9,313 (last year 9,284) 000 head.

Production per cow for November was down 3% from October, and up <1% from last year at 1,787 (1,838; 1,783) lbs/cow.
